Game Review: Cube Runner

Hey, we’re adding a new feature to Renerd… iPhone/iPod game reviews. I recently purchased an iPhone and I’m very much enjoying the world of mobile gaming… so much so that I’m actually neglecting my 360 and my Wii. I seem to have more occasion to play games in short bursts… five minutes here, 3 minutes there. These micro-moments are not really good for getting into a console game. If I tried to play GTA for 3 minutes, I wouldn’t even get to the game before I had to turn everything off.

The game I’m going to review today is Cube Runner by Andy Qua. It’s a very simple game but it’s currently my favourite by far. All you do is use the device’s accelerometer to navigate your little ship through a field filled with cubes. The idea is that you keep going until you crash into one. That’s it, just stay alive for as long as you can. Sounds simple but it’s fun as all get-out. It’s definitely a throw-back to the old-school games like asteroids.

Here are some screenshots…

I give Cube Runner a Zombie Crisis.

You can get Cube Runner here and you can see the Cube Runner website here.

When I was little I would always play this game called Jet Slalom that was like cube runner except on computer. When I look back the graphics were pretty bad, but the game was just as fun. You can play here:
