So Lost has now concluded for another season, and although a bunch of questions were answered, in true Lost form at least as many were posed. We learned how exactly the Oceanic 6 got off the island; we were shown how Jin died (or did he?); and we now know that Ben can actually “move the island” (or at least cause it to ripple away into the unknown). In general I enjoyed the finale quite a bit, although it felt like everything just kind of happened. Unlike past season finales there was no “OMFG-I-can’t-believe-what-I-just-saw” moment.
Whether you liked it or hated it, one thing it’s guaranteed to do is generate conversation. To add a little more fuel to the fire, I came across this video today of two alternate endings. By now everyone knows that John Locke provides the body in the coffin that we were denied from seeing at the end of season three. But what if it was somebody else in there? Watch this for a couple of the possibilities:
Word is they shot these so they could pull a last minute change if the final scene was leaked. This makes me question how much of the remaining story the writers actually have planned out. A major character being dead in a coffin should change the plot in a significant way, shouldn’t it?
But hey what do I know? Only that I have another 8 months to wait until Lost returns with Season 5.
This was kind of exciting, but I can’t help but wonder if it is somewhat spoilerish. Does this mean that Desmond and Sawyer will die? Is that why they felt safe releasing such a thing, knowing that those character will eventually join Locke in death? Is it a ruse?
Exciting possibilites…
The way things are going I have a couple of unsubstantiated thoughts on the additional prospects. Sun will be the new badguy. She will side with Whidmore to get revenge on the other Oceanic Six who made her leave Jin Behind. She will exact her revenge in a most terrifying manner, and then Jin will show up.
Whidmore is butting heads with Ben because Whidmore wants so desperately to RETURN to the island as he had initially MOVED the island. My buddy Glen actually came up with that one though.
Now here’s the other thought, what if the countdown was put in place to automatically move the island so that the person who created the countdown could theoretically return without consequences?
I leave you with that.
And Tom Zarek is the Final Cylon.
I think this has been the best season yet. There were some ‘okay’ episodes (the Juliette episode comes to mind..) but for the most part, it was pretty awesome.
I watched those alternate endings a couple of days ago and I think they always planned to have Locke in the coffin. I mean, he’s the only one that makes sense! I can’t see Jack getting that upset over anyone else (especially after his last scene with Locke). And if you remember the way Kate reacted to Jack at the beginning of the finale when they were discussing Jeremy Bentham and what happened after they left the island.. she said something along the lines of, “And you believe him??”
I can’t see her reacting that way if it were Sawyer… or Desmond.
I’m pretty sure they just shot the other two scenes so no one would know what the real ending would be until the show aired. They were probably just being extra cautious, especially with what happened last year.
So what are your thoughts on the fate of Jin? I don’t know HOW he could have survived that explosion (but then again, Claire survived her new-Otherton home getting blown up..) but there are theories floating around regarding Daniel Faraday and his little boat full of people. They’re saying that he’ll be the one to find Jin in the water and save him… we shall see!
To tell you the truth, Faraday is such a wild card that I cannot even begin to fathom WHY he was so distressed, what his motives are, or really, anything that has to do with him, although he may be my favourite of the newer character (that and I think the actor that plays him is amazing).
Why would “Christian Shepard” tell Michael ‘It’s ok. You can go now,’ and then boom!
I guess the next two seasons will let us know.
