Well it is finally over (or is it?). The “30 Days of Night: Blood Trails” webisode series / short film is done with Episode 8 and you may be wondering what I thought of it, given it’s shakey beginnings.
Initally, I was very concerned with the level of talent in these short films, and the more I thought of it, the more I think the greater failings were in the script itself. I think most of the actors did well with what they were given and there were only a few shots that I thought were just terrible. While the direction the script took was strung me along well, I became slightly annoyed by some awkward conversations. I really didn’t feel the main actors were in need of a fix so bad. Although the juxtaposition of the junkie vs the vampire was fun, it seemed they sort of forgot about it along the way.

What the movie lacked in well-written conversation, it more than made up for in gore. There is A LOT of Red Dye No 5 and Corn Syrop in this mess and it is a pantload of fun to watch the gore go flying. I have to admit to having a few “Oh shit!” moments while watching it, and I ended up being a little tense watching the webisodes.
I think this is a great lead up to the release of its theatrical partner today and the short pumped me up to see “30 Days of Night“, which was pretty much its purpose, and so I have no choice but name “Blood Trails” a success.
