It is no surprise to anyone how much I adore the Toronto After Dark Film Festival. Every year I attend in some capacity. Every year Renerd covers it in whatever way we can. This year, sadly, it is likely we may not be able to cover the festival as completely as we have in the past but that doesn’t mean that we aren’t going to try.
For one thing, there will likely be no video blogging involved as Fearhurst, who helps man the camera and always does an amazing job with the video editing is away for the first half of TADFF. Sometimes, real life just happens and we have to make the best out of less than ideal situations.
With that being said though, that doesn’t mean that YOU shouldn’t check out the Toronto After Dark Film Festival! As a matter of fact I would be very disappointed in you if you didn’t. Every year, the festival organizers are able to put together a program that doesn’t just include Horror, but really makes the effort to bring a wide array of cult cinema to the Bloor Cinema. I am talking about films that you would likely NOT have an opportunity to see anywhere else.
When they first announced the films for this year’s lineup I knew what I wanted to see right off the top. “The Last Exorcism“, Neil Marshall’s “Centurion“, and “The Human Centipede“. I read the rest of the films and knew next to nothing about most of them and assured myself that they were fine films. TADFF picks tend to be. Then I watched the trailers. Now trying to decided what I should see has become infinitely more difficult. Each film brings shape and character to a beloved annual event in my life. I think, ‘How could they possibly make an entire film about a sentient tire that blows shit up?’ Well the only answer to that would be to go see “Rubber” wouldn’t it? But wait a sec … Jim Sturgess? I know who he is, that “Heartless” movie looks creepy! I should check that one out. Holy Guacamole the “I Spit On Your Grave” remake that I have been hearing so many amazing things about? Well I HAVE to see that don’t I? Come on, I can’t miss “Doghouse” though!
Now you see my dilemma don’t you? Is it possible for me to see ALL the films? No. So how do I choose? How will YOU choose? Or will you choose them all?
I have included the trailers in the sidebar. They will cycle randomly so I will be keeping them all there until the festival ends. You know, just to help you pick
.
The creepiest one for me? Well that has to be the Eli Roth produced flick “The Last Exorcism”. I have included the amazing trailer below.
