The Toronto Zombie Walk Needs You!

One of our favourite fall events has always been (at least since we had heard of it!) the Toronto Zombie Walk.
Every year (with last year being the exception due to circumstances beyond our control) we have gone down and enjoyed the show that is the zombie walk. I cannot begin to describe to you how amazing it is to see the undead en masse in downtown Toronto’s busy streets. Literally THOUSANDS of people gathered together for an amazing afternoon filled with comraderie, good times, and gallons of fake blood.

We love going down and filming the mayhem and talking to the zombies who have always been more than exciting to talk to. I’ve posted my favourite below, which is from 2008. With the Zombie Walk getting bigger every year, the fact of the matter is, that it gets more and more complicated. Think about it for just a second. Thousands of people gathered together in one location moving towards a second location. Now add buckets of blood. The City has raised its eyebrows toward the Zombie Walk as it continues to gain popularity. Certain regulations need to be followed for the Zombie Walk to continue and so Toronto Zombie Walk Organizer Thea Munster needs your help for the magic to continue. Unfortunately, there are less than scrupulous people out there who choose to use the zombie walk to further their own goals by investing NOTHING in the zombie walk.

She wrote this note to her fiends on Facebook:

The greedy are killing the Toronto Zombie Walk!

Every year, there are events~ like zombie dances, etc, who try to capitalize on the fact that there will be 6000 plus zombies roaming the streets of Toronto.

Meanwhile, a few volunteers and I spend all year raising the 3000-5000 dollars needed to hold the FREE event. This year I also have to worry about registration, finding enough volunteers to run it, as well as over 40 zombie wranglers. My whole life, er death, has become making sure this can happen.

But, I am completely disheartened when people make money off this event and don’t even help out with it. Especially, in the case of this year, when someone actually volunteered to be a committee member to find out the information, including time, date, end place, etc…then dissapears, only to show up again with flyers for their own event on the same night..roughly at the time the walk ends.

The crazy thing is~ if these people had bothered to talk to me I probably would have liked to work with them. Running an after party is alot of work and I need all the help I can get. But, no, they try to be sneaky about it and don’t want anyone cutting into their buck. In fact, these people can’t even be bothered to buy a 5 dollar brain drive raffle ticketo support the walk.

I know piggybacking always happen, but to pretend to be a zombie walk supporter is just uncalled for.

If more people don’t start supporting the TZW and the City doesn’t start helping either, I’m afraid I’m not going to be able to do this anymore.

We always do our best to promote the walk so please, if you are even THINKING of going down to the walk this year, take a second and register over at the Toronto Zombie Walk site, and go have a blast at the Fiendraiser on August 13.
