When Chris, Jason, and I started this blog I never truly thought that I would still be writing on it to this day. I was excited to jump in and join the world of blogging even though I really had no clue as to what I was doing and I had no clue as to where it would leave me. We just wanted a forum where we could talk about music, video games, movies, and, of course, zombies. We really didn’t do much with the music so that got ditched pretty early on.
Thanks to Chris’ passion for radio we started Breakfast For Geeks. We got together every Sunday morning and recorded ourselves talking over brunch about things in the nerd. That got expensive pretty fast so it was put on hiatus. Rising from the ashes came Renerd Radio which has been running strong for a few years now. I was never that good at the podcasting but Chris and Jason took that ball and ran with it and are still doing an amazing job.
They also have an amazing podcast that talks about The AMC television adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s comic “The Walking Dead” over at www.talkingdeadpodcast.com. As a matter of fact they have a very special guest on tonight so I highly recommend you subscribe so you don’t miss it. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed in this show.
For the longest time I have tried to make Renerd.com like the other blogs out there, I have tried to compete in a world where just about everyone and their ferret have one. This site has always been a reflection of me and who I have been trying to be.
Recently I have come back to drawing and painting. I wish I could describe what it is like for me to work on a painting but I just don’t know if I can put it in to any other words besides “I love it”. I have been neglecting my creative side for far too long. That’s when I got the idea to just start sketching out the article pics. Some days it would take forever just to find the right picture. Let’s not even start debating the legalities involved. That’s when I got the idea to just take 20 minutes max to just sketch out the pictures that came to my head. It’s win-win for me as I get my own image and I get to practise drawing. Some sketches prove more challenging than others but in the end I am satisfied with what I am doing.
I am currently working on a zombie painting that is oil on canvas and I love working on it. I am also still working on Lester The Ghoul, whose site is down but will be up again soon. I cannot wait to finish that book. As I work on these pieces I recognise that I can’t keep trying to be like these people that I admire. I have to stick with me and what makes me function and what I am passionate about. I will still be writing reviews on movies and videogames and tv and anything else that strikes my fancy. That is also a part of me, but I will be staying true to my nature as far as all that goes. Know that I am genuine when I am excited about something.
I am about creativity and the expression of that creativity.
This may not get me into Fan Expo or Comic Con or TIFF, but that’s fine. It is who I am. It is not who I am trying to be. I will never be the greatest painter who ever lived and I am good with that. I am going to be the artist that I am however and you all are more than welcome to come along for the ride.
