This Week In Zombies (July 17 – 23)

For the sake of being completely inconsistent I have decided to finally post another TWIZ. The honest truth is I could fill this page with a tonne of The Walking Dead news as they have a very strong presence and Sand Diego Comic Con right now and news is just spewing forth. As a matter of fact there will be a panel discussion not even an hour from now. You can check out a live stream of the panel discussion over at thewalkingdeadpodcast.com.

………

What is exciting news to me, hidden among all the casting and set visits is one little tidbit of information that seems to have been overlooked. IGN reports the following during a discussion of his recent launch of Skybound over at Image Comics:

More than once, Kirkman stressed “it’s going to be in color on TV.” His tone suggested it was a strong possibility that Walking Dead would have a black-and-white version at some point.

This brings to mind the idea that perhaps DVD / Bluray would have the option of viewing the series in black and white. We already know that Frank Darabont, one half of the team running the show (with partner-in-crime Gale Ann Hurd) envisioned his Horror Adaptation “The Mist” in Black and White and made it happen, so one could logically deduce such a thing happening. Time will tell.

……….

Another major item clogging the internet is that fact that Brad Pitt will be starring in the adaptation of Max Brooks’ “World War Z“. Back in February of 2007 we mentioned this Pitt’s production company picked up the rights to the film and production seemed to be a little floaty at best. Well this week just about every site that has to do with movies and or zombies wants you to know that Pitt has confirmed that he will be in the film. I have yet to see if he will play the role of the journalist or if he is even just a bit role.
Stay tuned and I will keep posting info as I hear it.

The community-funded UK Indie Zombie film “Invasion of the Not Quite Dead” has started up their own twitter account which you can follow here: www.twitter.com/IOTNQDmovie

Kotaku gave us the good news that “Dead Rising 2: Case Zero” will be released on August 31st, but also the bad news (for PS3 owners) that it will be an Xbox 360 Exclusive. The original “Dead Rising” was, at first, a 360 exclusive and was the whole reason I even bought a 360. It has since been ported over to the Wii (?!really?!). “Dead Rising 2: Case Zero” will bridge the gap between the first and second games.

Capcom’s Keiji Inafune says:

“I have always had doubts about doing a demo,” Inafune said. “Everyone seems to want to do them. Rather than create a demo for Dead Rising 2 I wanted to set up a different area and let people see what the game play is like.”

The demo disguised as a prequel will be available for 400 MSpoints. If I can just editorialise here for a second, Valve did an amazing job with their original Half-life Demo, “Half-life: Uplink“.

And that was free.

Horror Author Brian Keene’s new comic book “The Last Zombie” is in stores now with the first issue already being available and the second issue on sale next week. Pre-orders for issue #4 are now available on his site
