Disaffection and Dharma

Post Rating

So one more helping of Lost to go and I honestly thought I would be a lot more excited than I feel right now. Last night many things were revealed and I find there is still a rotten taste in my mouth left over from last week. As I watched the interactions between the survivors and Jacob all I could think about was how they could have told last weeks episode in a flashback, or even a series of flashbacks. As a matter of fact how amazing would it have been to have had the entire story told as a sort of prologue to each episode?

I initially thought that perhaps the episode was so bad last week because they wanted to make this episode look so much better by comparison. That was not the case for me. I think my distaste spilled over from last week as there was still a thin film of funk lightly basted over the episode. I am 95% positive I would have enjoyed the episode more if I was still riding a high rather than clawing myself out of the hole. With all that complaininess out of the way, after 14 episodes SOMETHING ACTUALLY HAPPENED. Ok, well something actually happened two weeks ago but still, MORE STUFF HAPPENED. What seemed out of character is Sawyer was a little spineless this week and seemed terribly underused. Even mopey. Ben is STILL one of the greatest TV villains ever because you just never know where his allegiances lay (lie?). OF COURSE he would eventually kill Widmore. It was the only thing he COULD do. Really it was just a matter of when.

Miles holds firm to the title of my favourite character right now but he seemed to sort of disappear (exit stage left). Richard got the smack layed down on him from smokey and although he got housed can he really die on the island? Do you think so? The great joy of the episode though has got to be Desmond. They called him a wildcard and I truly believe that is what he is. No one knows what is so important about him, we just all know that he is unique to say the least. It was great to some hustle in the characters and in the develpment of both them AND the plot.

BWE and I are greatly anticipating Sunday, but I just read that Carleton Cuse and Damon Lindeloff co-wrote that episode. Not gonna lie a little here. I stopped listening to the official LOST podcast because I couldn’t stand how they never talked about anything but just sort of got off on not saying anything. That became very annoying very quickly. I can’t help but wonder if the final episode might be better suited to people who didn’t write one of the worst episodes of the series.

I can’t really say that anything shocking or surprising happened this episode at all. Perhaps the biggest shock will be that nothing surprising WILL happen on Sunday. But at least it will be over.
