Ok LOST, Smarten Up! (Yes there may be spoilers)

Post Rating

It makes me sad that so much damage can be done with so very little ammunition. Last night, if you have been living under a rock, was the premiere of one of the best Science Fiction shows to ever grace the airwaves that doesn’t rhyme with Schmattlebar Fralactica. BWE and I sat anxiously for the opening scene of last night’s two hour introduction to the final season of LOST. What is curious is that the scene that played out wasn’t quite right as far as history is concerned but I supposed that is the point. There is a new history because of the actions of Juliette and the others. But mostly Juliette.

The curious thing is that it isn’t just the only story being told. We are given a revision of the story that we have come to know and love and we are ALSO given a continuation of the events on the island after the explosive season 5 ending. I was on board. Loved it. I think that the writers are being very craft as to how they show us what they show us. When does the revised history take place and what relationship does it have with what we are seeing on the island? I am sure messageboards and chats will be filled to the brim based on a whole night to speculate but I have never been one of those people. I’ll say it now, feel free to share with me what the general populace has to say. At this point I am quite satisfied to not bother guessing as to what is happening and just let the ride take me where it goes.

Except for one thing.

The one thing that practically ruined the whole fucking episode for me. The one line that was spoken that seemed like it was written by a not-very-talented grade 8 student that has watched too many DMX movies.

Sawyer digs his way down to Juliette desperate to save the woman he loves. He finds her under a pile of rubble, cuz being crushed by all that collapsing scaffolding and heavy machinery could chafe, not to mention falling what looked like 5 stories, which incidentally may give you a nasty bump on the head. He is able to hold her one last time and she says to him the words that will haunt me for years to come because it is one of the DUMBEST LINES IN TELEVISION HISTORY.

“I have something really really important to tell you.” and then she dies.

How absolutely retarded was that? Can you possibly explain to me how that was GOOD? If you can make me change me mind and convince me that line was absolutely necessary to the story arc then I will buy you a chocolate bar but until then I will stand by my point that it was one of the most ridiculous lines I have EVER heard and it tainted the rest of the episode for me. Ok, so Sawyer got Miles to “talk” to her so he could find out she said “It worked”. Big Hairy Deal! You couldn’t have had her just SAY that? You had to go through all that just to deliver the words “It worked”? Really? Writers, you better have a VERY good reason for even ATTEMPTING to put that line in there because from where I am sitting you just killed the excitement for me. Did you need to fluff out the script and extra few minutes is that why? Just some artificial means to give you some filler time what you could have spent your energy writing dialog that I KNOW you are capable of delivering in a meaningful fashion? Gah I am disgusted.

Like I said you BETTER have a VERY good justification as to why you had to have Miles deliver that line to Sawyer rather then from Julietter directly. For now I am willing to give you the benefit of the doubt because I love this show, but you folks are on very shaky ground at the moment.
