True Blood Season 2: Episode 1

Well the other night the second season to one of my favourite shows of last season kicked off with what promised to be an exciting hour of television. Keep in mind, that I will be discussing events from last season so if you haven’t watched yet and don’t wish to be spoiled, stop reading right now.

We left off last season with the murder of one of my favourite protagonists, Lafayette. The killer who was framing Jason Stackhouse was not only shockingly revelead but was also visciously removed from the storyline via Sookie Stackhouse and a very sharp shovel. Tara finally found a place that seemed to shelter her from her troubled home and a surrogate mother who seems to wish her nothing but the best. We also discovered this mysterious matron is not all she appears to be and that she and Sam Merlott seem to have a bit of a history that will clearly play itself out. Bill Compton nearly died trying to save Sookie and instead was pulled out of the ashes by Sookie & Sam.

I found myself satisfied by the season two premiere, but not entirely excited about it. There were a few nice surprises that I will not get into for the sake of not being totally spoiler-filled, but one of the … ahem … highlights has to be the image of Eric coming down the stairs. What an odd sight that was. It was such an unusual moment because it showed us a side to Eric that we were not likely expecting, considering his status among the other vampires. It was a moment of vanity that played out almost as an insight into something weaker than we have previously come to know. Of course, seconds later that moment turned into such a moment of horror that we ALMOST forgot about the foil. Almost.

Things I am curious about this season now:
1) What does that wheel do? What is it attached to that they have to turn it every so often? I liked the moment where the one slave ran to the side to evacuate, while still chained to the wheel. Not that I enjoy that sort of play mind you, but I enjoyed what it implied. It is a side of that sort of imprisonment that we don’t really see that often.

2) What exactly is the deal with Terry Bellefleur? I find myself wanting to really like him as there seems to be something about him that we will definitely find out about, but then after he protected Arlene from the town gossips by showing them the door that moment where he was smelling her hair just seemed so odd, almost as if he was looking for something in that smell. And why was he trying to hide his smoking last season?

3) What is Maryann? What’s with her vibratiness? She makes me very nervous.

4) How long is it going to take before Bill latest “protege” makes a supreme mess of EVERYTHING?

5) How much more nekkid can Ms. Paquin get? That was a pretty nekkid episode.

    I agree. Maryann’s turn.

I heartily agree, sir! Althought all I can think of when I see her is Ensign Rowe. As in the other night “I can’t believe Sam is totally schtupping Ensign Rowe!”
